RALLY ’ROUND THE UNION
Drug Clerks at 41 Raley’s stores in UFCW 8-Golden State’s jurisdiction became members of the Union on March 1 after an overwhelming majority signed cards authorizing UFCW 8 to represent them. 
The workers chose to join the Union around the time UFCW 8 received, for the third year in a row, a special organizing award from the UFCW International Union (see story on page 8). 

“Finally, after years of isolation, these Drug Clerks belong to a strong, solid bargaining unit along with other Raley’s workers,” President Jacques Loveall noted. 

“They now have a say at the bargaining table.” In a letter welcoming the new members, Loveall wrote: “You are now part of a respected and influential organization

Drug Clerks have joined other Raley’s workers as members of UFCW 8-Golden State representing more than 30,000 workers. “We want your membership to be a source of personal satisfaction and value. As a union member, your interests on the job will be protected by your Union Steward, by your highly experienced District Union Representatives and staff, and by our team of skilled negotiators, attorneys and other specialists.”

Loveall added: “In a time when workers across the country are losing their jobs or having their benefits reduced, your benefits will improve under the agreement reached between the Union and Raley’s. “You are now an important part of an organization with a very important goal: to help its members obtain and hold on to better pay checks, job security, benefits and justice on the job,” Loveall told the new members. “Your Union attains these goals through the support, unity and participation of members like you and we welcome your participation.”
